David Carl Shortridge of Hiddenite, passed away, Wednesday February 8, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 10, 1936 in McDowell County, West Virginia to the late Sparrow Nelson Shortridge and Georgia Ann Davis Shortridge.

Mr. Shortridge retired as a professional truck driver and after retirement worked in security, he was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; as well as two grandchildren, Katie Shortridge and David Muncy.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Roberts Shortridge of the home; three sons, Michael Shortridge and wife Laure of Washington State, Duane Shortridge and wife Missy, David Shortridge both of Ohio, Kenneth Blankenship, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Rock Ridge, West Virginia; three daughters, Teresa Atwell and husband Ralph of Iaeger, West Virginia, Mary Ann Fisher and husband John of New London, NC, Rita Triplett husband Jackie Ray, Sr. of Hiddenite; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a special sister in law and caregiver, Geneva Cooper of Hiddenite.

A gathering for remembrance will be conducted privately by the family of Mr. Shortridge at a later date.
