He was born on Friday, May 16, 1941 in Iredell County to the late Bristol Coles Barker and Flora Lee Harrington Barker. He worked in furniture, construction, and also as a horse trainer. He was member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and the NC Quarter Horse Association.
In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by, one brother, Jerry Ned Barker, and two sisters, Mary Evelyn Barker Herman and Carolyn Barker.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Riddle Barker, of the home, one daughter, Cindy Barker Cascaddon (Tony), of Statesville, two grandchildren, Dusty Wilson (Jennifer), CA, and Kryssy Hensley (Brian), of VA, two step granddaughters, April Cascaddon, of Catawba, and Katie Cascaddon, of SC, and six great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. The Rev. Brian Eades and Rev. Joey Campbell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the church.

Betty, I think of Hugh often, such a great person. I still have the bird house he made from the old flooring from Love Valley Presbyterian church. May the good Lord help you find comfort.
