Irene and children,
We were so saddened to hear of Robert’s passing. Just as Tim said Saturday on the phone, “Although expected, his passing so soon was unexpected.” To us, his passing is bittersweet. His suffering has ended but at the same time he will be greatly missed by all of us.

Thinking back, we fondly recall many memories of all of you from years past including enjoying watching him play softball, the cookouts, the steamed shrimp feasts, as well as watching him conquer the little game with the golf tees leaving only one tee left declaring him a “genius” every time. I still can’t figure out how he always did it and when I pick one up, I’m still declared just “plain stupid.”

Robert’s deep pride for his children and grandchildren was always so very obvious. His generosity of kind words and actions spoke so loudly about the man that he always was from helping Beulah and Frank build a deck at their house to sharing from his garden which produced bountiful harvests each year. There are just some people that are like magnets that you’re drawn to and Robert was just that type of person.

Our summer with you in Rockville was a blessing and definitely an act of loving kindness for us as a young couple struggling to earn a little money to buy our mobile home in Blacksburg while we were in college. You all did not have to open your home to us for three months, but your love to us showed in more then just words, it was by your actions which spoke to the genuine caring attitude that you both have always had toward us.

Unforgettable, you bet. We will always cherish his memory and friendship, just as we do yours, Irene.

We regret that we could not be with you this week. Be assured of our prayers for you that God will give you strength as you seek Him. That you will truly feel His loving arms giving you support now and for these days ahead. Hopefully we’ll be able to visit you soon. We’ll be in touch.

Love you all.
