Spiers Welsh, age 86, of 24 Lineside Dr., Stony Point, passed away Sunday January 24, 2010 at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born on November 14, 1923 in Airdrie, Scotland, to the late John Welsh and Margaret Spiers-Anderson Welsh. Mr. Welsh served in the US Army in Italy during WWII. He was  printer by trade. He was a member of Iredell-Statesville Coin Club, Lake Norman Coin Club and the Morganton Coin Club. He was also a member the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine Alice Welsh; two sisters, Ann Simmons and Elizabeth Ulichny; four brothers, John Welsh, Thomas Welsh, Robert Welsh and Alexander Welsh..

He is survived by his special niece, Susan Updike of NJ; other nephews and nieces; friends, Reece and Eileen Henderson of Statesville, Melissa Kessinger of Statesville; and trustee, Smarty of the home.

A memorial service will be conducted 2:00pm Wednesday January 27, 2010 at the Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Hospice Chaplain Lynn Kunkle will officiate. Military Rites will be provided by Hiddenite Post #10000 and Taylorsville Post #5466. There will be no formal visitation.
