Avis Alexander Pope, 88, of Stony Point, passed away Friday April 4, 2008, at her residence. She was born on October 17, 1919, in Alexander County, to the late Ernest and Allie Sherrill Alexander. She was a retired supervisor at Uniglass Industries and a member of New Sterling ARP Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hall Bryson Pope; siblings: Annielou Caudill, Veta Tucker, Dorsa Johnson, Troy Alexander and Eva Prichard.

She is survived by her son Danny Pope and wife Chris of Stony Point; a grandson Bryan Pope of Stony Point; a granddaughter, Micki Pope Howard and her husband Wesley of Denver; great grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth and Landon Alexander Howard of Denver; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Lindsey Stikeleather; and a sister-in-law Billie Alexander. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 7, 2008 at 3:00pm at New Sterling ARP Church in Stony Point. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Dr. Earl Linderman and Rev Tim Watson will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall, after the burial. Pallbearers will include nephews; Paul Caudill, Phil Caudill, Sam Caudill, Randy Dellinger, Harold Johnson, Danny Marlowe, Leon Marlowe and Randy Overcash. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
