Charlie Ray Payne Jr., age 82 of 407 Ray Rd., Stony Point passed away Friday July 16, 2010 at Gordon’s Hospice House, after an extended illness. He was born December 8, 1927 in Iredell County to the late Charlie Ray Payne, Sr. and Nellie Marie Adams Payne. Mr. Payne served in the US Navy 1946-1951. He was a construction worker and was a member of American Legion and VFW post 10000. He was also a member of Temple Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Payne Wolfe; a grandson, Christopher Brian Payne; and one niece, Julie Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Dagenhart Payne of the home; two sons, Curtis Payne and wife Sandy of Stony Point, Louis Payne also of the home; two daughters, Karen Moose and husband Ray of Catawba, Tina Eaton and husband Wayne of N. Wilkesboro; three brothers, Phil Payne and wife Judy, Foy Payne and wife Jean, David Payne and wife Shirley all of Stony Point; four sisters, Geraldine Goble and husband Earl of Stony Point, Fern Kiker and husband Carl of Matthews, Judy Matlock and husband Midge, Toni Smith and husband Larry of Taylorsville; thirteen grandchildren: Amy Lamberth, Ereck Mayhew, Dereck Mayhew, Stephanie Sherrill, Kelley Pearson, Shelley White, Brandon Hefner, Travis Payne, Kayla Pitsenbarger, Courtney Payne, Elliott Eaton, Zachary Eaton, Nathanael Eaton; seven great grandchildren: Justin Sherrill, Taylor Case, Shayna Case, Mariah Mayhew, Ayden White, Ethan Lamberth and Jesse Lamberth.

Funeral services will be conducted 4:00pm Sunday July 18, 2010 at Temple Baptist Church. Rev. Jason Payne will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Salem Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by VFW Hiddenite post #10000 and Taylorsville post #5466. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm prior to the funeral hour at the church.

Pallbearers include: Ereck Mayhew, Derek Mayhew, Travis Payne, Brandon Hefner, Ethan Lamberth, and Justin Sherrill.
