Charles Burette Burgess, 78, of Sherrills Ford, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.. He was born on Aug. 14, 1929, in Alexander County, to the late Dwight Burgess and Cecil Hammer Burgess. He was a retired truck driver and served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Burgess was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son.. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Williams Burgess of the home; three sons: Marty Joe Burgess of Sherrills Ford, Allan Burgess of Terrell, Jack Burgess of Lincolnton; one daughter, Jill Burchette of Hiddenite; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery Saturday at 1:00pm. Military Rites will be provided by Hiddenite Post #10,000 and Taylorsville Post #5466. Rev. Scott Hammer will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30pm-8:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home and at other times will be at their respective homes.
